Brow Lamination: How It Works, Pros and Cons, and Aftercare

Brow Lamination: How It Works, Pros and Cons, and Aftercare
Brow lamination is a semi-permanent treatment that softens the brow hairs with a lifting lotion, brushes them into place and sets them, so the brows look fuller, tidier and brushed up for around 4 to 8 weeks. It is sometimes called a brow lift or brow perm. It works on your natural hairs only: no pigment goes into the skin, which makes it a good first step for anyone who wants bolder brows without semi-permanent makeup. Below: how the treatment works, its real pros and cons, the aftercare and who it suits.

What is brow lamination?

Brow hairs grow in different directions, which makes brows look sparse or unruly even when there are plenty of hairs. Lamination temporarily reshapes each hair so it stays where it is brushed. The result covers small gaps, makes brows look thicker and gives the popular "brushed-up" look. At Beauty Art Pro in Geneva the treatment is also known as a Korean keratin brow lift, and it includes vitamin serums that nourish, hydrate and repair the natural brows.

How brow lamination works, step by step

  1. Consultation and brow check. We look at your hair growth, the shape you want and any sensitivity.
  2. Cleansing. Brows are cleaned so the lotions work evenly.
  3. Lifting lotion. A first lotion softens the hair structure so it can be reshaped.
  4. Brushing and shaping. Hairs are brushed into the chosen direction and held in place.
  5. Setting lotion. A second lotion fixes the new shape.
  6. Nourishing care. Vitamin serums restore moisture to the hairs.
  7. Optional finishing. Tint, hybrid tint or waxing can be added to define the shape.
According to the booking page, brow lamination takes about 45 minutes. Combined treatments take longer: with hybrid tint or waxing about 1 hour, with a lash lift about 1 hour 30 minutes.

The pros of brow lamination

  • Fuller-looking brows in under an hour, with no needles and no pigment in the skin.
  • Low daily effort. Brows stay in place, so most clients need only a quick brush in the morning.
  • Covers small gaps by redirecting the hairs you already have.
  • Temporary and adjustable. If you do not love the look, it grows out.
  • Combines well with hybrid tint for colour and definition, or with a lash lift for the whole eye area.

The cons of brow lamination

  • It does not last forever. The result fades as hairs grow and shed, after around 4 to 8 weeks.
  • It cannot create hairs. If your brows have large gaps or very few hairs, semi-permanent makeup such as microblading or combo brows may suit you better.
  • The lotions can irritate sensitive skin. If you have allergies or very sensitive skin, a patch test is recommended before the treatment.
  • Hairs can feel dry if lamination is repeated too often or aftercare is skipped. Leave enough time between sessions and use a brow oil.
  • 24 hours without water right after the treatment.

Brow lamination aftercare

  • Keep the brows dry and away from steam and high humidity for the first 24 hours.
  • No retinoids or exfoliating products near the brows for 48 hours.
  • Moisturise with a recommended brow oil or conditioner after the first 24 hours to keep the hairs healthy.
  • Brush the brows into shape each morning.
  • Avoid rubbing the brows and sleeping face-down on the first night.

Who is brow lamination for?

Brow lamination suits you if your brows have enough hairs but grow downwards, in different directions or look flat; if you like the full, brushed-up look; or if you want to try a bolder brow before committing to semi-permanent makeup. It is less suitable if the skin around your brows is irritated or broken, or if you react to cosmetic lotions. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, mention it at booking so we can advise you.
