Lip Blush: What It Is, How It Works and How Long It Lasts
Lip blush is a semi-permanent makeup treatment that deposits a soft tint of pigment into the lips to even out their colour and redefine their contour. The result looks like a natural lip stain rather than lipstick: lips appear fuller, more even and more defined without daily makeup. According to the salon, lip blush usually lasts 12 to 24 months, and the colour lightens by around 40 to 50 percent as the lips heal, which is planned for when the shade is chosen. It is also known as lip blushing, lip micropigmentation or candy lips.
What is lip blush?
Lip blush (lip blushing) uses a fine needle to place pigment in the upper layers of the lip skin. Unlike a traditional lip tattoo or a hard lip liner, the colour is applied in a soft, semi-transparent wash, so it blends with your natural lip tone. It can:
- revive pale or uneven lip colour;
- redefine a blurred or asymmetric lip line;
- make lips look slightly fuller by softly re-drawing the contour;
- help even out the colour around small scars.
Lip blush does not add volume the way fillers do. It works with colour and contour only.
Who is lip blush for?
Lip blush suits you if you wear lip colour most days, if your lips have lost colour or definition with time, or if you simply want to wake up with a fresh, natural tint. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and you should ask your doctor before booking if you are prone to cold sores, have a skin condition on or around the lips, or take medication that affects healing. Naturally darker lips can also be treated; the shade is chosen to neutralise and brighten rather than to cover.
How a lip blush session works
- Consultation. You discuss the look you want, your lip history and any health questions.
- Shade selection. The shade is matched to your skin tone and natural lip colour, keeping in mind that it will heal 40 to 50 percent lighter.
- Design. The contour is drawn on your lips so you can approve the shape before any pigment is placed.
- Numbing. A numbing cream is applied for comfort.
- Pigment application. Colour is built up gradually in soft layers for an even, gradient finish.
- Aftercare briefing. You leave with written instructions for the healing period.
According to the booking page, a first lip blush session is planned for about 3 hours.

Lip blush healing, step by step
| When | What you see | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Swelling, tenderness, very bright colour | Blot gently, apply the recommended balm |
| Days 2 to 3 | Swelling goes down, lips feel tight and dry | Keep lips moisturised, avoid spicy or very hot food |
| Days 4 to 6 | Fine flaking, colour looks uneven | Do not pick; let flakes fall on their own |
| Days 7 to 10 | Surface healed, colour may look pale | Normal: the colour is still settling |
| Weeks 2 to 4 | Colour returns and softens into its true shade | Protect from the sun |
| Weeks 6 to 8 | Healed result visible | Touch-up session |
The full day-by-day routine is in our lip blush guide: shade, healing and aftercare.
How long does lip blush last?
According to the salon, lip blush usually lasts 12 to 24 months. Sun exposure, exfoliating lip products, smoking and your own metabolism can make it fade sooner. The salon's maintenance plan is:
- a touch-up at 6 to 8 weeks to perfect colour and contour once the lips have healed;
- an annual touch-up at 12 to 18 months to keep the colour fresh.
Benefits and limits of lip blush
Benefits
- A natural, even tint every day without lipstick.
- A more defined contour that does not smudge.
- A shade chosen for you, from very nude to a soft rosy colour.
- A result that fades gradually, so you can adjust the shade at the next touch-up.
Limits
- Swelling and dryness for the first few days.
- A touch-up is needed to complete the result.
- It does not add volume like fillers.
- It is semi-permanent, so maintenance is part of the plan.
